Work Machines and Trail Rigs Across Kentucky
A side-by-side does double duty across Richmond and Madison County. Around these parts the same machine hauls hay and feed on a farm, carries hunters and gear to a stand in the fall, and takes the family out on the trail the rest of the year. Because they work so hard, they see more wear than a weekend-only toy — and they need maintenance that matches the job.
We're set up to service the machines you see on farms and trails around here: Polaris Ranger and RZR, Can-Am, Yamaha, Kawasaki Mule, Honda Pioneer, John Deere Gator, and Kubota RTV. Whether you lean on it for chores or live on the trails, we can keep it running.
Common UTV & Side-by-Side Repairs
Most of the side-by-side work we see falls into a handful of areas:
- CVT belt & clutch service. Squealing, belt dust, a machine that feels like it's slipping, or a sudden loss of drive all point to the primary clutch and drive belt. Belt failure is the most common side-by-side breakdown we see, and a worn primary clutch that shreds belts and leaves you stranded is a bigger job we can diagnose before it costs more.
- No-start & slow cranking. Hard starting can be the battery, the starter, a safety switch, the fuel system, or the charging circuit. We trace it properly instead of throwing parts at it.
- Electrical & charging problems. A battery that won't hold a charge, a warning light on the dash, or accessories that draw down the battery point to the charging circuit, voltage regulator, or a wiring fault. We test alternator output right at the machine.
- Drivetrain. Clicking, grinding, or a machine that won't move could be an axle, a CV joint, a driveshaft, or a differential. Steering up front and braking are part of the same inspection.
- Fuel system. Sitting with old fuel and a gummed-up carburetor or injectors is a leading cause of hard starting. We clean and service fuel systems so the machine fires up when you need it.
- Brakes. Pad, rotor, and hydraulic service keeps a heavy machine safe on a steep grade, whether on a hunting lease or a farm lane.
- Winch service. A winch that won't pull or spools crooked is a common fix after a season of mud and water. We service, rewind, and replace winches.
How a CVT Works — and Why DIY Is Risky
Most side-by-sides use a continuously variable transmission (CVT): a rubber V-belt running between a primary clutch on the engine and a secondary clutch on the transmission. As the engine revs, the primary clutch closes and changes the belt's effective diameter, so the machine "shifts" smoothly without a clutch pedal or shifting levers. It's a simple, rugged design — and it's a common point of failure.
The CVT is one system we strongly recommend leaving to a professional. A belt swap might look straightforward, but getting the belt off and back on usually means pulling or supporting the clutch system, and a misaligned install, an overtightened bolt, or a wrong-gauge belt can tear a brand-new belt on the first ride. Worn clutch weights, sliders, and rollers fail gradually, and a machine that's already destroying belts needs those parts diagnosed — not just another belt. We have the tools, sprags, and experience to do it right, and we'll tell you honestly whether a clutch can be serviced or needs replacement.
Maintenance That Keeps a Side-by-Side Dependable
A working UTV earns its space in the barn. A little regular care keeps it ready:
- Fluids. Engine oil, coolant, and gear oil for the transmission and differentials all need attention. Water and dirt work their way in on the trail, so regular changes matter more than on a pavement-only machine.
- Air intake. Dust and chaff load up the air filter fast on farm and trail work. A clogged filter costs power and fuel economy and lets dirt into the engine.
- Belts. Inspect the CVT belt and clean the clutch area — mud and grit accelerate belt wear. If you're seeing belt dust or slip, bring it in before it strands you.
- Battery. Vibration and sitting idle are hard on batteries. A charge check and clean terminals prevent most no-start mornings.

UTV & Side-by-Side Repair FAQ
Do you work on all brands? We service the major machines found around here — Polaris Ranger and RZR, Can-Am, Yamaha, Kawasaki Mule, Honda Pioneer, John Deere Gator, and Kubota RTV. If it's a side-by-side, we'll take a look.
My belt keeps burning up. What's wrong? Repeated belt failure almost always means something else is worn — usually the primary clutch weights, rollers, or an alignment issue. We diagnose the cause instead of just putting on another belt.
My UTV won't start but the lights come on. That's a common symptom that can be the starter, a safety switch, or the fuel system. Bring it in and we'll trace it properly.
Do you give an estimate before starting work? Yes. We diagnose first, give a firm quote, and get your approval before any work begins — no surprise bills.
Do you pick up? For machines that won't move on their own, we can often arrange pickup and delivery in our service area. Call us and we'll set it up.
